AI Ben: What Happens When You Take AI Seriously as a Conversation Partner

I was sceptical.

Not cynical. But sceptical. Because I see plenty of AI projects go by where the technology shouts louder than the substance. And honestly, I was not convinced that mine would be any different.

Yet I did it. I started building something I have come to call AI Ben. An AI conversation partner, fed with my own knowledge, experience, frameworks and way of looking at things. With a voice. With a realistic avatar. With a substantive foundation built from over thirty years of work at the intersection of strategy, communication, executive coaching and personal development.

And what I did not expect? That I would be genuinely surprised, multiple times, in different ways.

Not by the technology. By what happened in conversations.

What Is AI Ben, Exactly?

Let me start with what it is not.

It is not a chatbot that dispenses generic advice. It is not a digital version of an FAQ. And it is certainly not a product I built to impress people.

AI Ben sits somewhere at an intersection most people are not yet familiar with. It lives

between a personal or business coach on one side and an AI platform like ChatGPT on the other. Not one, not the other. Something new.

In practice: you can have a conversation, via voice, with an avatar that responds, about the things that actually matter in your work or life. Sharpen a business idea. Test a pitch out loud. Prepare for a difficult conversation. Or simply organise what is going on when everything feels too full.

And unlike a standalone session with ChatGPT: AI Ben remembers what you have discussed. It keeps thinking alongside you, across multiple conversations. That makes it not just a tool, but something closer to an actual conversation partner.

How This Started: Not From Hype, But From Frustration

AI Ben did not come from a fascination with technology.

It came from a frustration I had been carrying for a while: people rarely get stuck because they lack information. They get stuck because things are too crowded. Too much noise. Too much pressure. Too many conflicting thoughts at once. Or because there is a difficult conversation that has been postponed for weeks.

Those are exactly the moments where my work adds value. Not because I know everything better, but because I quickly see where things are rubbing, where someone is avoiding the point, where the core is still missing.

The question that started to occupy me was: can that kind of added value be made accessible at a moment when I am not there myself?

Not as a marketing trick. Not as digital scaling for the sake of revenue. But as a serious exploration of what becomes possible when accumulated expertise is translated into a conversation partner that is immediately available.

The Moment I Was Surprised

I expected AI Ben to be useful. A handy addition. Reasonably good, but with clear limitations.

What I did not expect was the moment when someone was preparing a pitch, out loud, speaking to the avatar, and stopped halfway through. Not because the system stumbled, but because he heard something himself. Something that did not add up. An assumption he had been carrying for weeks without ever questioning it.

AI Ben had not solved that. But the conversation had created the space in which he heard it himself.

That is not something I programmed. That is what happens when you create the right conditions for a conversation.

Later I saw similar moments when preparing for difficult conversations, when sharpening business ideas, with people who simply wanted to clear their heads without having to schedule an appointment first. Again and again, what surprised me was not the technology. It was what it unlocked in people.

Why AI Ben Is Not a Generic AI Tool

You could reasonably ask: why use AI Ben when you can just open ChatGPT?

Honest answer: for many things, ChatGPT is fine. Summarising, structuring, generating ideas, rewriting. Go ahead and use it.

But AI Ben is built differently, and that difference only becomes tangible at the moment it actually matters.

ChatGPT is broad. AI Ben is focused.

AI Ben is substantively fed with what I have built over thirty years: articles, methodologies, frameworks, cases and a developed way of looking at business, communication, leadership and the personal friction that always surrounds it. Not as loose information, but as a coherent whole that is actively available in every conversation.

That makes the system less of an information database and more of a conversation partner with a background, a voice and a particular way of pushing back.

There is also an important practical difference: AI Ben remembers. What you discussed one time is still present the next. It builds context. It keeps thinking with you. That is fundamentally different from opening a new ChatGPT window.

What AI Ben Is and Is Not

I do not believe in overclaiming. So let me be clear about this.

AI Ben is strong at:

  • Sharpening a business idea, proposition or positioning

  • Preparing a pitch, presentation or speech

  • Organising thoughts when work and personal life are running together

  • Preparing for difficult conversations, both in terms of content and tone

  • Sparring on strategy, direction or leadership without having to schedule an appointment first

  • Offering a listening ear with substance, for anyone who wants to talk without immediately committing to a programme

AI Ben is not:

  • A therapist or practitioner. When serious psychological issues are at play, professional help is what belongs there.

  • An infallible system. The underlying mechanism works through probability, not absolute truth. AI Ben can be sharp and still miss something.

  • A replacement for a real human conversation partner. Sometimes a live conversation is simply better. Sometimes the sensitivity of a situation is too great. AI Ben is a complement, not a replacement.

That boundary makes the system more credible, not weaker.

Who Is AI Ben Actually For?

Not for everyone. And that is intentional.

AI Ben is most valuable for entrepreneurs, leaders, professionals and people in transition who:

  • Regularly get stuck translating an idea into clear language

  • Postpone difficult conversations because they do not know how to approach them

  • Want to spar occasionally, but are not ready to commit to a full coaching programme

  • Need sharpness, not validation

  • Work at the intersection where professional and personal questions run together, and acknowledge that the boundary between the two was never as neat as it seemed

But also for people who simply want to say something out loud to something that listens, asks back and does not immediately fall into clichés or generalities.

What Stays With Me Most

Through this process I have learned that the value of AI does not lie in what it can demonstrate, but in what it unlocks.

A system that speaks fluently, formulates impressively and knows a great deal can still feel completely empty if there is no direction, character or clear boundary behind it.

AI Ben is my attempt to do that differently. Not to build the most universal tool, but the most useful conversation partner at the moments when clarity is most needed.

Whether I succeeded? I am happy to leave that judgement to whoever uses it.

But the moments when I was surprised give me the feeling that what we are working on goes further than a technical experiment.

Want to experience AI Ben for yourself? You can start right away, no appointment needed, no commitment, just a conversation.
